Starwood Australia MDF Plant

The project comprised process buildings and all associated infrastructure.

Buildings include chipper building, refiner, blender, production line, rough cut line, finishing line, board conditioning storage, product storage and offices. Typical building envelopes of 130 x 60 metres and up to 24 metres in height were required. Civil works include roadworks, chip storage, shipping area, stormwater drainage and stormwater retention and treatment pond.

The Bonacci Group was appointed to undertake all civil and structural consulting engineering services for both the base building and all process engineering, including chip handling. Simple repetitive framing solutions were used to achieve large clear span structures and the use of post-tensioning for ground slabs resulted in economical slab thickness, with minimal joints and high load capacity.
