The hospital is designed to be efficient and non-threatening, contemporary yet fitting into its environs, innovative, sustainable and most of all planned with all women in mind.

Royal Women's Hospital, Parkville

The Royal Women’s Hospital redevelopment will see a new world class hospital developed adjacent to the Royal Melbourne Hospital site. It is being designed, documented, tendered, constructed and maintained through a Partnerships Victoria 25 year concession period.

This 160 bed specialist women's and neo-natal paediatric health service has been designed as an iconic stand alone facility with its own distinctive presence, but able to tap into infrastructure and support services from the Royal Melbourne Hospital.

Included in the development is the 60 bed Frances Perry House Private Hospital operated by Ramsay Healthcare, as well as private consulting suites, ambulatory care, five operating suites for elective and emergency surgery and two procedure rooms for day surgery, 17 birthing suites, 60 Neo-Natal Intensive Care cots and Special Care Nurseries, emergency, high dependency services, pathology, imaging, research laboratories, IVF laboratories and all the associated clinical and diagnostic, administrative and facility management services required in support.

A five level underground car-park for 947 cars, a child care service and several retail outlets will be commercial components of the project.

It is innovative in its approach with 100% fresh air conditioning to the inpatient wards using the displacement method. The design is flexible to meet future needs with provision for future expansion designed from the outset.
