A steel frame solution prepared by Bonacci Group was found to be the only buildable solution that could meet all the site’s unique and demanding criteria.

Federation Square deck

The Federation Square project was jointly funded by the Government of Victoria and the City of Melbourne. The project comprises a civic square and a number of public buildings, all constructed on a structural deck above the existing railway tracks between Flinders Street and the Yarra River. One of the tenderers for the deck structure contract, Multiplex Constructions, commissioned Bonacci Group to provide an alternative design for their tender.

On winning the contract, Multiplex opted to use our alternative structural steel design in preference to the reinforced/prestressed concrete tender design. Our commission was extended to include total structural design for the Ian Potter Museum. This comprised eight galleries over two levels, with a storey height of 7.5 metres and clear spans of approximately 15 to 17 metres.
