The Bonacci Group was appointed as the civil/structural engineer for this $20 million project, on the basis of our design innovation skills.

The project comprises the development of new facilities for Army's 10 Terminal Regiment and Army Maritime School on a 12 ha greenfield site. This development includes a headquarters building, major workshops, canteen, lecture theatres, Q store, marina to accommodate Army's Landing Craft mediums (LCM8) and extensive site works and hard standings. Technical challenges include development in an environmentally-sensitive estuarine zone, difficult soil conditions and design for cyclone impact.
All but one of the buildings is founded on raft footings with ribs generally 500 deep. The land strip, which serves as a training facility for loading and unloading marine craft, is founded on piles because of the heavy crane load it supports.
The door to the LCM8 workshop is a sliding door measuring 11m x 11m with heavy acoustic linings. This door has been designed not only to resist cyclonic wind loads but also to cater for differential settlement of the footings, roof deflection under wind load and ease of erection.
