Senior Civil Engineer - Victoria

Bonacci Group is recruiting a Senior Civil Engineer to join our team in the Melbourne office. 

The role of the Senior Civil Engineer is to support the development and strategic growth of Bonacci Group's civil team, provide sound technical capabilities and leadership working on varied projects within the civil team under the mentorship of the Civil Principal and company directors. The Senior Civil Engineer is to provide mentoring to the other members of the civil team where required. 

The role will expose the candidate to all facets of civil engineering consultancy work across a variety of industries including industrial, commercial, retail, health, education, residential, local and state government. Duties include but are not limited to:

Job Descriptions and Responsibilities

  • Pro-actively manage a variety of civil engineering related projects, including infrastructure, car parks, roadways, drainage, water authority and other building associated civil works. 
  • Represent Bonacci Group in a professional manner at meetings with clients and authorities.
  • Actively manage agreed project budgets and programs.
  • Ensure company and client deadlines, commitments and expectations are met.
  • Manage civil related projects to completion to the Bonacci Group's QA processes and procedures.
  • Check information supplied by the client, surveyor, architect or other sub-consultant to identify details that may affect the final design.
  • Prepare and review various technical reports, drawings and tender documentation. 
  • Work with Bonacci Group's structural engineering team to facilitate and contribute to projects where required.
  • Provide assistance when required with the preparation of civil related proposals and other aspects of Business Development.
  • Liaise and seek agreements with all associated consultants, council and government representatives and service authorities as required.
  • Perform periodic site inspections of work under construction to verify that as-built work conforms to the design drawings and technical specifications. 
  • Responsible for all transfer of drawings.
  • Provide strong mentoring to other members of the civil team as necessary.
  • Training as required of junior staff with the use of Civil 3D software, Tuflow and 12D.
  • Raise any aspect of the project with the Project Manager/Civil Principal that may affect commercial agreements in place.
  • Provide office administration support relevant to the position, which may include but is not limited to copying, filing and QA administration.
  • Actively participate in the Annual Performance Review process.
  • Carry out all functions in accordance with the approved procedures of the Quality, Safety and Environment Management System.
  • Cooperate with management in its fulfilment of its legislative obligations.
  • Take reasonable care to ensure their own safety and health and that of others, and to abide by their duty of care provided for in the legislation. 
  • Complete weekly timesheets and self-manage time on project work as required under the supervision of senior staff.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Completion of a recognised Professional Engineering qualification. Overseas qualified engineers will need to have a Skills Assessment for Engineers undertaken by Engineers Australia to be considered for the role. 
  • Circa 7-10+ years of post graduate professional experience as a Civil Engineer within Australia.
  • Exposure to the design of car parks, roadways, drainage, water and sewage reticulation and other building associated civil works within Australia.
  • Exposure to Civil 3D, 12D, Tuflow, AutoCAD, Music will be looked upon favourably
  • Exposure to sewer and water projects will be looked upon favourably also.
  • Strong practical and technical ability, and conceptual understanding.
  • A knowledge of Australian Building Codes and Standards, and an understanding of local design standards and specifications as they apply to civil projects.
  • A pro-active and technically confident approach to work, with the ability to deliver high quality outcomes on various projects within competing timeframes.
  • Positive “can-do” attitude and an ability to learn and improve on past performances.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal with strong organisational skills.
  • Membership of the institute of Engineers Australia and CPEng or working towards CPEng.
  • Australian or New Zealand citizen or hold Permanent Resident status

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing HR strategy, advice and support to our overall business.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing HR requirements including cyclical HR activities, performance reviews, recruitment and onboarding processes, succession planning, talent development, internal HR software and budget management
  • Providing strategic advice to management on workforce strategy, talent management, culture, diversity and leadership
  • Driving HR projects to support a positive company culture embedding the company values across the business
  • Providing advice and support to managers and employees in relation to workplace behaviours, team building and morale

About You

The ideal candidate for this role will possess the following skills, qualities and experience:

  • 4+ years’ experience as a HR manager delivering a wide variety of multi-disciplined HR programs and projects
  • Tertiary education in a relevant field
  • Experience working in a mid-sized company
  • Experience working with business stakeholders in a strong coaching capacity
  • Experience in ER/IR, organisational change, reward and legislative compliance
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strategic mindset and strong negotiation skills
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Demonstrated ability in building relationships and delivering results in a fast-paced business in a multi-cultural environment.
